Complete Blood Morphology (CBM®) is Scopio's fully autonomous analyzer for routine blood morphology. Positioned downstream of the CBC analyzer, it uses Full-Field™ imaging and AI to detect, classify, and quantify blood cells, then auto-reports routine peripheral blood smears directly to the LIS without hands-on review. Samples that need expert attention are flagged for a morphologist.
A CBC counts and sizes cells electronically. It cannot look at them. When a CBC flags something abnormal, a blood smear is made and a human examines it under magnification - that morphology review is the step CBM® automates. CBM® runs after the CBC, not instead of it.
Digital cell morphology systems pre-classify cells and present them on screen, but a technologist still opens, reviews, and confirms every sample. They make the bench faster; they do not remove it. CBM® auto-reports routine cases end to end, so trained staff only handle the samples that require their judgment.
Cases that carry clinical or technical flags - blasts, schistocytes, plasma cells, and specimen quality issues. In a workflow comparison study across 225 peripheral blood smears, 14.22% of samples were flagged for review and the remaining 85.8% were reported autonomously.¹
